Piriformis Syndrome

April 21, 2006

The piriformis muscle is located deep inside the glutes and outwardly rotates the leg. When it is tight it can cause pain that radiates down the leg by putting pressure on the sciatic nerve.

Keeping the adductor muscles (inner thigh) flexible is key in preventing piriformis syndrome therefore allowing the abductors (outer hip) to do their job instead of straining the piriformis. Learn how to prevent or care for this issue at SportsInjury.net.
